Wow, a lot has been going on in our world. Let me recap for you. (Abridged version)
July - Joyce (Jerry's mom) came down with a flu, broke her leg and ended up in the hospital with very high blood sugar. They put a plate and some pins in her ankle to get it to heal straight.
August - After being released from the hospital, Joyce went to Jacksonville's Nursing and Rehab Center for physical therapy. It wasn't going well so the doctor wanted to her to come in for a checkup. Jerry Sr., Jerry and I were all going to go with her as we knew that the news was going to be for an amputation. Jerry Sr. didn't show up at the nursing home so I went to go find him. After 30 minutes, a neighbor of Jerry Sr and Joyce's helped me break in to the house to find him in the tub unconscious. We later found out that he had a massive stroke. He passed away on August 24, 2008 in the early morning. I was fortunate to be with him, his son and daughter when he passed. It was very peaceful.
September - Joyce has her leg amputation and comes out of it great. A week later goes back to the hospital with congestive heart failure. A week later is back in the nursing home (St. Catherine's Labour Manor) and is doing great, that is until she get pneumonia. Took her about 2 weeks to get over that. Her residual leg is healing up nicely. The doctor is pleased and schedules a procedure to clean away some of the dead skin and help the healing.
November - Joyce goes in for an over night stay for the procedure. She gets a wound vac that will help heal her wound quickly. She does great but the nursing home she was in won't take her back as they don't know how to deal with wound vacs. WHAT?!? So, she moves to Heartland Health Care Center for more rehab and recovery. They seem to know what they are doing with the wound vac. We checked her out for Thanksgiving and over all she had a great time getting out and about. We had a few logistical problems but that will get easier. My dad had a procedure to clear out some tumors in his bladder. Don't have any more information on that.
December (Now) - Joyce has an appointment tomorrow with the doctors office to see how she is healing. We have our fingers crossed. My dad has been diagnosed with low grade bladder cancer. He goes in Saturday the 6th for another procedure to clean out his bladder and then will start treatments after that.
Can you believe all this? And this is the abridged version. I didn't even get to the good news like my sister finally adopting two lovely girls who have been in her care for 2 1/2 years or that my brother got his dream job and is now living in Texas. Oh..there..I guess I just did.
